Basic Education
Elementary Education
At 6 to 8 years of age all children begin their basic education in an elementary school in English. For the next three years they develop the basis for sound literacy and numeracy skills, family and community values including discipline, personal health care and respect for others.
Primary Education
At the age of 9 to 11 years of age children continue their basic education in a primary school. After six years of primary education that begins with a bilingual program, children have skills to live happily and productively, contribute to their immediate communities and use english to understand basic social, scientific, technological and personal concepts and value learning after grade 8.
Provincial Plan
All Children in Eastern Highlands Province will enter elementary school at the age of six years and will complete three years of basic education to elementary grade two.
